60-Second Shot

           For Video Art 2 we were asked to create a 60-second shot, material was our choice.  This was probably one of my favorite projects I've done in school for the simple reason that it allowed me to be very creative with my material.  I realized the amount of different subjects you can use in a 60-second shot is incredible.  But, yet it is so hard to figure out what to video for the reason that you can shoot so much and everything will have special affects on the audience.  My 60-second shot was of a basketball game.  I have to admit I liked what I chose for my 60-second shot but I think I could’ve came up with a video that would have a greater impact. To change the orientation too would be something new to try.

My video was shot for eye level, as a spectator, and was in normal upright orientation.  After watching the other videos in my class I came to notice that I didn’t think to change the direction of my camera.  To record the video sideways could have created a more abstract image.  Overall I believed that I learned a significant amount about video art through this one project.  I may explore more with the idea of a 60-second shot and generate a small portfolio with several different experimental videos. 

I found some inspiration through what my classmates showed in their videos.  There are several ideas I have going through my mind that I’ll try to combine with everything I learned from this project.  I can't wait to see what I can come up with for my own entertainment!!

What I Love About Video Art?!

Video art is a new representation of art through to combination of moving and still images mixing with the use of effects.  It’s not my favorite form of art however; it has several things I find of great value.  First is that video art has a means of capturing things in ways most people don’t normally see. There’s a certain quality about video art that always makes the footage look fresh or gorgeous.  Whether the video is a form of pictures, video, or both combined.  The second thing I find very appealing about video art is the ideas behind it.

When watching any video art piece at first you’re really confused have no idea what’s going on.  Video art, as a form of art, is more along the lines of the message trying to be conveyed.  For example, paintings, drawings, and sculpture are created based off a artists idea or emotion however they tend to be as the viewer sees them.  I think video art is different.  Video art to me is all about the message being conveyed throughout the use of technology.  Now what do I love most about video art?

The main aspect of video art that I love is the combination of technology with the creative side of an artist.  Technology is part of our world and will never fade.  And the ability to combine the two things I’m good at and love makes it all the better.  Even though my opinion of video art has a whole is very different, the concept of video art is, what I believe, outstanding.
